Product Details
Only old (and very rare) olive trees are wide enough to yield enough wood to make large bowls like this one from Bérard, which is spun from a single piece of olivewood. Since 1892, Bérard has specialised in wooden products for the kitchen and table, with a special focus on wood sourced from olive trees around the Mediterranean that no longer bear fruit. Olivewood is known for its warm hue and strong contrasting grain pattern, as well as its density. Olivewood's density and tight grain structure makes it very durable and especially resistant to stains and odours. This olivewood bowl – featuring a stark, caramel grain pattern – can be used to serve salad or as a fruit bowl, adding rustic charm to any table. Due to its uniqueness, no two olivewood pieces are alike.
To keep this bowl looking as good as new for a lifetime of use – just as you should for any other wood product – rub the bowl with food-safe mineral oil or Berard Wood Butter every time you notice the surface looking dull. (For more on caring for wooden products, click here.)
Why we love it
'We brought in this extra-large 44cm diameter bowl (with a generous height of 15cm) because it is unique. The scarcity of raw olivewood in this size for tableware production makes it an exceptional piece. We only have one of these bowls in stock.'Specifications & Care

About The Brand
Berard France
Based in the Drôme region of southern France, Berard has specialised in olivewood and Mediterranean wood products since 1892. Olive and other hardwood trees are individually selected to ensure strength and durability before the creation of products, always from branches that are removed as part of the standard pruning and maintenance cycle rather than cut or uprooted. Production takes place in local workshops across Italy, France, Spain, Albania and Tunisia—as close as possible to the source of the wood in order to minimise the carbon footprint and environmental impact.Shop Berard France
