Founded in 1947 just after the end of World War II when Kaymet’s founder Sydney Schreiber was looking to explore uses for lots of leftover aluminum and machinery which had been employed making radar equipment and radios during the war. Aluminium was a relatively new discovery, and the Second World War made it apparent how durable, easy to work with and inexpensive aluminium could be.
The trays that Schreiber and his team have created have become iconic, and are still produced in the same area of London’s East End. All Kaymet trays are made by Kaymets small team in their factory in Bermondsey, and many still follow the same timeless designs as Sydney’s originals back in 1947, with only very subtle tweaks. Available in a range of sizes and colours, with rubber grips or without.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Kaymet Trays dishwasher safe?
No - putting aluminium in the dishwasher can lead to tarnishing and damage to the tray itself. We recommend handwashing with a soft sponge in warm soapy water, and towel drying immediately. The rubber grips are removable, so you can clean thoroughly underneath.
Are Kaymet Trays durable?
Yes - aluminium is a very robust material, and we often hear that people have Kaymet trays which were their parents in the 60’s or 70’s. With proper care, a Kaymet tray can last for decades.
Can I place a special for an order for a tray which you don’t stock?
Yes, that’s no problem. Please contact us with any special requests, and we can assist you.
